Digital Trends to Look Out For in 2020

In the last few months, we’ve been looking at a few of the trends within digital that could take the digital world by storm in 2020, as well as increase business for many organisations in the New Year. Being able to identify what brings in more consumers and where they spend most of their time is key to the success to all organisations with a digital focus.

Being able to keep up with the constant innovations the digital world brings can be challenging; but with the increasing likelihood of Brexit, uncertainty grows over how it could affect business for companies around the UK. We look at a few of the digital trends to keep an eye out for as we head into 2020.

Personalisation is crucial

Generic advertising can be a put-off for many consumers, and being able to retain customers as well as bring new ones in is important. A customer-centric approach will make consumers feel like that they are important, and that you actually value them. Various online retailers have begun analysing consumer viewing activity to gain an idea of the type of products they like to purchase. Using email campaigns to then provide feedback to the consumer will ensure that they are more likely to shop with the business on another occasion.

Monetising Your Product Online

It’s no secret that most of the time spent online nowadays is on social media or streaming platforms. Over half of Instagram users say that they have found new products and stores via the platform. With the recent Black Friday and Cyber Monday deals, consumers were searching to see where they could find the latest discount. People are not only spending more time on social media – they’re spending a lot of money through it! Social Media platforms such as Facebook, Instagram and Pinterest have made it easy for businesses to sell directly to consumers.

Chatbots Providing You with A Service

In one of our recent blogs, we spoke about the emergence and importance of a chatbot. Companies that deal with mass inquiries or messages via the globe, have to ensure that they are providing timely service to their consumers. Online retailers have adopted this approach where a chatbot is able to assist you with any problems you may have whilst roam the website. Chatbot’s will likely lower overall costs.  For example, if the customer service request cannot be handled properly by the chatbot, a customer can request for human-operator assistance in these systems for more support.

Video Isn’t Going Anywhere

Producing video content in 2019 was a big hit. We mentioned the power of social media platforms earlier and video is keeping consumers on the platforms for longer. They are also influencing consumers when it comes to purchasing products online. According to Oberlo.co.uk, 73% of consumers claim that they have been influenced by a brand's social media presence when making a decision on whether or not to make a purchase. Podcasts have also become very popular online.

Attracting engaging and attractive content is bound to retain and bring in even more customers in 2020!

Interactive Content

Content which is engaging to the customer is the first step to increasing sales. People on social media like to have their say (aggressively or not) and creating posts with active participation will keep visitors sticking around. Website quizzes, polls or engaging customer videos that show the inside of a company’s culture, interactive content makes people feel more involved and, therefore, invested in what creative organisations have to offer.

Voice Search to handle EVEN MORE of our queries (Get ready, Siri)

With the introduction of Apple’s Siri, Amazon’s Alexa and Microsoft Cortana, it gave us the option to be able to interact with our devices using our voice. According to statistics, more and more people are using voice-assistant equipped gadgets such as smartphone apps and digital assistants. According to Google, 20% of all searches via a mobile device are now made using voice search and it has been widely speculated for a few years now, that almost half (50%) of all searches will be made using voice search in 2020.

With the excitement and speculation around voice search, companies may have to look at digital strategies that adopt voice search (no complicated words guys!)
