With the increase of applications across various devices, coding plays a crucial role in the evolution of technology and the success of apps.  It’s increasingly clear that every employer will need professionals with this skill set. Someone proficient in programming languages such as Python, C+, Ruby or JavaScript is invaluable to an organisation as their knowledge and expertise can help to build their products and services.

Artificial intelligence (All roles)

You can’t avoid AI – you just can’t. Current and developing AI technologies are leading the way for how businesses are structured, how they conduct day-to-day operations, and the roles which are created as a result. The growth in the AI sector is not set to slow down any time soon.

Although digital professionals are worried about how AI will affect job security in the long term, that has also opened up opportunities for employers to seek professionals with specific skill sets to progress the technology even further. AI skills are being desired for not just IT and tech positions, but the marketing role, for instance, can and is benefiting greatly thanks to AI. Tools such as ChatGPT are aiding teams, increasing efficiency in the process.

Data Analysts

More technology companies and organisations in general are heavily relying on data to drive strategic decisions and improve their products and services. This is a key reason why Data Analysts are in such high demand and will continue to be throughout 2024. Not only are intelligent Data Analysts required by organisations to enable other teams to dissect and use the information easily, but a good analyst must be creative and able to present findings clearly. Analysts were also ranked highly in LinkedIn’s fastest-growing jobs list for 2024.

Cloud Computing Professionals

Cloud Computing has become one of the leading digital storage initiatives for companies over the last few years. They are opting to store data and other IT services on a cloud service and paying for the services as they use them. One of the reasons we’re seeing an increase in this is due to it being considered more cost-effective and secure.

Cloud systems allow companies to have flexible and scalable operations and also gives the opportunity to use new technology much quicker than they would with physical servers. As a result, the need for Cloud Computing professionals is very high.

46% of the UK population uses cloud storage in some capacity. The 2022 cloud market size in the UK is estimated at £41 billion ($48.5 billion), which is forecasted to grow to £59 billion ($69.9 billion) by 2024.

This highlights the growth of the market and why cloud professionals are being highly sought after.

Cybersecurity Professionals

Whilst the growth of the technology sector has presented many benefits, as a result of the capabilities it presents, also brings its fair share of disadvantages; notably the increase in cybercriminal activity.

Recent statistics revealed that 46% of UK businesses experienced a cyber-attack in 2023. The average cost of a cyber-attack to a UK business was £3,230. Cybersecurity skills such as threat detection, risk management, and being able to deal with a crisis are key for businesses to invest in in 2024.
