There’s nothing like the London rush hour! Between 8-10 am, the capital of England is dealing with the chaotic rush as Londoners commute to work, school or other days to day duties. Being cramped on a platform trying to get on an already packed tube is one thing, but think about those poor underground barriers! As commuters tap in and out of the station, there are bound to be queues at not only barriers but Oyster and ticket machines. 

Apple has recently tweaked its pay service in an effort to speed up payments and also reduce queues and waiting times. This gives commuters a chance to pay for travel costs at a quicker pace by using their iPhone or Apple Watch. This will mean that the previous process of needing to authenticate payments through facial recognition or fingerprints, will no longer be needed. This Express Transit feature will work on iPhone SE, 6S and later models, as well as the Apple Watch. 

By assigning a specific bank card to be their travel payment card, owners of these devices won't need to authenticate transactions as they enter and exit the Tube system anymore.

Instead of a bank card, users can also designate their Citymapper Pass - a virtual travel card available on a subscription, starting at £30 per week. 

"With more people using their iPhones to pay for their travel around London, it's become increasingly noticeable that transactions are marginally slower when you use an Apple device," said Ben Wood, an analyst at CCS Insight.

"Queues can quickly form at peak times when a few seconds are lost here and there."

Londoners with these devices will be hoping that this will significantly decrease the chaos that can sometimes be associated with London’s rush-hour…in the underground. Safe commuting!
