McDonalds loyalty scheme rewards customers with menu items

McDonalds have launched their loyalty scheme, rewarding customers with the option to swap their reward points for their favourite menu items including McNuggets, McFlurry’s and Big Macs. This incentive comes into play when the customer spends £15.

This value for money scheme is bound to please the global restaurants loyal followers; who can access their rewards via the My McDonalds app. ‘MyMcDonalds Rewards’ is currently being tested in up to 10 locations in the UK.

How do customers earn points?

Customers can earn 100 points for every £1 that they spend, allowing them to unlock a variety of exciting prizes depending how many points they have. For bigger prizes, customers must accumulate 1,500 points to unlock tasty treats including a Hashbrown, McFlurry or small fries. To unlock a bigger treat such as a Double Cheeseburger or Bacon Mayo Chicken or Vegetable Deluxe, customers must have 2,500 points.

Now, to unlock luxury items such as a Big Mac, Chicken McNuggets or a Premium salad, the most loyalist or customers will have to accumulate 4,000 reward points!

Points must be used within a year of accumulation, or they will expire. Customers also have the choice to donate to BBC’s Children in Need if they wish to do so.

As personalisation and loyalty innovations grow, this is another example of McDonalds digital push towards trying to get more people to use their applications for a more satisfying experience. Branches now include a touch-screen self service machine, where customers can order their favourite menu items whilst gaining points in the process. Customers can only earn points by ordering in-store; so points cannot be awarded by ordering from third party services such as JustEat or Uber Eats.

McDonalds displayed their commitment towards sustainability by launching their new brand platform in 2021 called ‘Change a little, Change a lot’

McDonalds CMO, Michelle Graham-Clare, said: “This new brand platform will enable us to talk about the actions we’re taking to improve opportunities for young people, help growers adopt sustainable farming practices and ensure our packaging is made from renewable, recycled or certified sources.”
