Staying healthy at work: tips

Having healthy habits in day-to-day life is very important, and that includes at work also. Depending on what your work environment is like, it can be challenging to keep a healthy body and mind whilst working hard to achieve your goals. However, the result of a healthy mind is more productivity and there are various factors that play a part in staying healthy at work – lets take a look.

Stay hydrated

Staying hydrated is very important during the day; ensure you are drinking enough water. As well as water, there are fruits which provide that provide good source of water such as Watermelons and Apples. Staying hydrated at work has great benefits which include faster decision making and improved performance.

Exercise

Apart from your commute to and from your workplace, staying active physically throughout the day when possible is also very important. Take the time out to go for a walk during your lunchbreak. If you’re finding your day particularly challenging then walking is not only a great way to burn calories, but to also help reduce stress and re-focus your mind.

A clean workstation

Besides mental and physical health, the conditions of your workstation, whether it be at work or home, is just as important. Be sure to keep a clean working environment; reducing clutter and regular cleaning of equipment such as your mouse or keyboard.

Know your limits

This can often be one which we forget to address. With the increase in hybrid working, knowing when to ‘log off’ can be challenging at times. However, knowing your limits is crucial when trying to avoid burnout.

Maintain a good posture

Maintaining a good posture during your working hours does require a conscious effort. Despite your potential walks on your lunch break and trips to the kitchen, you’ll be sat at your desk for the majority of the day and it’s important to ensure your chair is comfortable and your posture is correct – preventing any long term negative effects. It may help by doing desk exercises to prevent stiffness in the neck and back.

Take frequent breaks

Ae mentioned previously, getting some fresh air at some point during your working day is very important; however, frequent breaks away from your workstation if possible, are just as beneficial. This provides benefits to your eyes by preventing eye strain and stretching your legs now and again helps (even if it’s just walking to the kitchen).

Frequent breaks will help your mind relax and re-focus. If you calendar is full with to-do tasks, try and squeeze in 5 mins each hour for a small break.

Eat Well

A balanced diet is important for a healthy lifestyle, and just as important during working hours. That’s not to say you can’t enjoy your favourite treats, but snacking on fruits is a great alternative. A healthy lunch can also be a good way to keep nutrition requirements in check. You can always spare a day of the week to enjoy your tasty cravings and treats your co-workers bring by. Portions control is also important, the last thing you want is to fall asleep at your desk because you had a big lunch.

Whether you’re working in the office or at home, we’re sure these tips will leave you with a feel-good factor and your health in good stead.
