The job market is more competitive than ever. There has been no greater time than the present to upskill and network effectively so you are ready to appeal to potential employers and secure the role you are looking for.
Our consultants speak to dozens of job seekers daily who are perhaps in the same position you’re in; wondering how they can stand out in a crowded talent pool. In case you missed it, MD of Blu Digital Jack Johnson has presented several insightful webinars providing tips and hints on how candidates can navigate the crowded market and position themselves in a strong position to land their next position.
What have we gathered from Jack’s sessions so far? Here are the main takeaways:
Add your CV to your LinkedIn profile: Adding your CV to your LinkedIn profile will provide recruiters with another outlook on your skills and credentials.
Post daily: Follow LinkedIn influencers for valuable tips (Story, Weeks learning, recap podcasts & webinars) Remember: Likes = More Eyeballs
Mention and engage with other users: Comment, like, and engage with users you admire and tell them why you like their content and how it helps you. This builds potential relationships.
Search daily: Be sure to be consistent with your job search as there are new opportunities arising daily. Don’t burn yourself out with constant searching, but be on the lookout regularly.
Hack for more Views on your profile and get it optimised: Click More>Build a Resume>Create From Profile>Enter Desired Job Title - Suggested Keywords * These keywords given will show what headhunters search for on the backend of LinkedIn when search candidates with your job title.
Make sure your profile is keyword optimised: Enter searched words and keywords in the ‘About’ section of your LinkedIn profile, as well as relevant job titles.
Profile Picture: Change your profile picture to get people to spend more time on your profile. Avoid having a blank profile picture.
Enable ‘Open to work’ feature: Rank Higher on recruiters’ search results by setting the ‘Open to Work’ feature to on. This will allow recruiters to know you are on the market for a new job.
Location is key: Identify the nearest big city to you to establish the possible opportunities that would suit you.
Message the Hiring Manager directly: When applying for new roles, if possible, message the hiring manager directly. In a crowded application process, you may find have a better chance of messaging the hiring manager directly to emphasise your suitability and interest in the opportunity.
LinkedIn Company Page messaging: You are now able to message the company directly on LinkedIn to get your profile to stand out and be heard.
Have you been made redundant? If you’ve unfortunately been made redundant, publish a compelling post on LinkedIn. This will help gain attraction and perhaps you will find both potential employers and other users who can help your situation.
